This course has inspired me a lot. Before taking this course, I did not even know what GIS stands for. I only knew this is a course requirement and I have to take it no matter what. After going to lectures and labs, I found out that this course is extremely interesting! I never know there are so different kinds of maps and projections. I did not even realize there are distortions on maps. I used to think that the map is the exact reflection of the real world.
This course has taught me to be critical at all times. Do not trust all the data that you acquire from the internet. There might be error and uncertainties. As a map maker, I have the ability to manipulate the data and decide what to show on the map and what not to. I also have the ability to decide what messages and insights I would like to convey to the map users. Therefore, it is always important to be critical and ethical when making a map.
Also, I acquired a lot of technological skills. I learnt different functions on the software ArcMap and learnt how to present a map visually presentable and understandable to all map users. I also learnt different geographical phenomenons and issues in this world. This course is extremely useful and inspires me a lot!
